SafeSocial is now on Google Play
SafeSocial has been accepted into Google Play and is now available for Android. It helps create a calmer Instagram browsing experience by blurring selected social-comparison triggers, while keeping the filtering choices in your hands.
A small buffer for a more intentional feed
Social feeds can make comparison hard to avoid. A post about romance, luxury, travel, or someone else's highlight reel may be exactly the thing you would rather not see in that moment. SafeSocial gives you a lightweight buffer: it checks Instagram media as you browse and blurs items that match the categories you select.
The Android app analyzes images on your device with its bundled AI model. For videos, it samples frames so moving media can be checked too. When something matches, SafeSocial blurs it; you can decide how to configure filtering and what you want to see.
Light mode starts with Romance and Luxury. Choose Aggressive to include every available trigger category, or use Custom to choose categories and a confidence threshold. You can also turn filtering off whenever you want.
Available on Google Play
SafeSocial is now available to install from Google Play. This is the standalone Android app, designed for people who want filtering while using Instagram inside SafeSocial.
SafeSocial does not send media to a SafeSocial classification server. Instagram still handles your account, login, cookies, and activity under Instagram's own terms and privacy policy. SafeSocial is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram or Meta. Its classifier is a personal filtering aid, not a clinical or moderation tool.
SafeSocial is also part of WebBrain
We first introduced SafeSocial as an optional feature in WebBrain 36.8.0. In WebBrain, the local classifier can blur, hide, dim, or warn about selected Instagram images and video covers. The new Android app brings the same idea to a dedicated mobile browsing experience, with its own controls and an on-device model.
Both versions start from the same principle: software can help make a feed more intentional without deciding what you are allowed to see. SafeSocial gives you a moment to pause, then leaves the choice to reveal an item with you.
